Steps to New Electric Service

RequirementsNot sure where to begin? Follow our Steps to Service when starting a new project.

1

Step 1 – Getting Started: Initial Consultation & New Service Application

Call our engineering department at (541) 688-8711 for an initial phone consultation. During the consultation, we’ll ask questions to learn how we can best meet your service needs. Following the phone consultation, you will complete and submit this New Service Application and pay a $250 application fee.

2

Step 2 –  Site Visit & Estimate

Next, we will contact you to schedule a site visit with our Engineering Technician. During the site visit the Engineering Technician will gather the information needed to create an engineering design and cost estimate specific to your new service. Following the site visit, the cost estimate will be emailed to you. When you are ready to proceed with your new service, you must approve the cost estimate by phoning our Engineering Department, (541) 688-8711, or emailing engineering@blec.coop.

3

Step 3 – Forms & Fees

Once you’ve approved your cost estimate, you will receive an invoice for all fees, a final proposal, and for new members, a service agreement. Once the completed forms are returned to us and the fees are paid, we will know you are ready for your new service to proceed. Depending on the size of your new service, there will be specific engineering requirements you and/or your electrician will need to be aware of before starting work.

4

Step 4 – Easements & Permits

If easements are required for your project, Blachly-Lane will provide you with the necessary documents. It is your responsibility to secure all necessary signatures and notarizations. (Blachly-Lane has notary service available by appointment.) All easement documents must be recorded with Lane County Deeds and Records office and returned to Blachly-Lane at engineering@blec.coop for your project to proceed.

Most all services will require an electrical permit. This is your responsibility to obtain. Special permits such as road, railroad, and forest permits, if needed for your project, are the responsibility of Blachly-Lane to obtain. Your project will proceed once all permits have been approved, and the timeline is dependent on the issuing agency.

5

Step 5 – Trench Inspection & Green Tag

It is the responsibility of the member to provide a Blachly-Lane specified and approved trench, conduit, pull string and meter base where determined necessary. Trench inspections are typically completed within two working days of being requested. When you are ready, request a trench inspection by calling (541) 688-8711 and ask for our Engineering Department.

Step 6 – Construction

Once the above steps are complete and Blachly-Lane has been notified that a meter base is green-tagged, the work will be released to Blachly-Lane Operations Department for scheduling. Construction can typically be scheduled for completion within two to four weeks. During heavy construction season, scheduling for completion may be longer.
